Eksplorasi Etnomatematika pada Rumah Adat Soka Bu'ahan

Abstract

Culture is a habit of society that occurs from generation to generation which becomes the identity of an area. The uniqueness of the culture of a particular region has the potential for mathematical concepts in it, one of which is the culture of traditional houses. The thing that bridges education and culture, especially mathematics education, is ethnomathematics. This study aims to describe the history and philosophy of the Soka Bu'ahan traditional house, describe ethnomathematics, and mathematical concepts in the Soka Bu'ahan traditional house and develop learning tools related to mathematical concepts found in the Soka Bu'ahan traditional house. This research is a qualitative research with an ethnographic approach, which was carried out in Babulu Induk Village, Kobalima-Malacca District. The subjects of this study amounted to 2 people. Research instruments in the form of researchers as the main instrument and supporting instruments, namely observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman model, namely through data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. Data validity tests are performed by triangulation techniques. The results of this study show that there are ethnomathematics in the structure of the traditional Soka Bu’ ahan house, including counting  or counting, locating  or localizing, measuring  or measuring, designing  or designing, and explaining or  explaining. From these ethnomathematical activities, mathematical concepts were identified, including numbering, multiplication, floor plans and cardinal directions, non-standard measurements, flat geometry, ellipses, equivalence, and straight-line equations.
