Abstract
Bukit Cendana, located in Pesawaran Regency, Indonesia, is an ecosystem with high biodiversity that provides suitable habitats for birds. This study aimed to identify bird species, assess bird diversity, and determine their conservation status in Bukit Cendana. The study was conducted from May to June 2025 using the point count method at three observation stations, with observations conducted in the morning and afternoon and repeated three times. Species were identified using standard bird identification guides. The Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H′) was 1.22 at Station 1, 1.01 at Station 2, and 2.27 at Station 3, indicating moderate diversity at all stations (1 < H′ < 3). A total of 24 bird species belonging to 17 families were recorded, comprising 959 individuals. One protected species, the Hill Barbet (Megalaima oorti), was recorded according to Indonesian conservation regulations. Overall, Bukit Cendana supports a moderately diverse bird community with conservation value. Therefore, habitat management should prioritize vegetation protection, reduction of human disturbance and infrastructure-related impacts, and regular monitoring of bird diversity and protected species to support sustainable biodiversity conservation.
