Abstract
This study aims to analyze the diversity and abundance of gastropods in the mangrove ecosystem on the coast of Lubuk Damar Village, Seruway District, Aceh Tamiang Regency. Gastropods play an important ecological role as bioindicators of aquatic environmental quality and litter decomposers in the mangrove ecosystem. Sampling was carried out in three different observation locations: residential areas (Area I), fishpond areas (Area II), and coastal areas (Area III) using the quadratic transect method. The results of the study identified 20 species of gastropods belonging to 10 families. The species with the highest abundance was Telescopium telescopium with a total of 817 individuals, while the lowest abundance was Laevistrombus canarium with 6 individuals. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’) showed a moderate category in all three areas, with the highest value in area III (H’=2.65) and the lowest in area I (H’=2.10). The dominance index (C) was low at all locations, indicating the absence of dominance by a single species and a stable community structure. Environmental parameters such as temperature, pH, and salinity were within the range that supports gastropod life. These results indicate that the mangrove ecosystem along the coast of Lubuk Damar Village has a moderate level of gastropod diversity with relatively stable environmental conditions.
