Abstract
Herpetofaunal inventories provide baseline information for conservation, but detection is strongly influenced by season, habitat, and survey effort. This study assessed amphibian and reptile diversity in Taman Hutan Raya Ir. H. Djuanda, Bandung, during July–October 2025 using visual encounter surveys at nine selected locations. Surveys were conducted primarily between 07:00 and 11:00. Species were identified morphologically, and diversity was summarized using the Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H′) and Pielou evenness (E). A total of 57 individuals were recorded, comprising 24 amphibians from 10 species and 33 reptiles from 8 species. Amphibian diversity and evenness (H′ = 2.07; E = 0.90) were higher than those of reptiles (H′ = 1.14; E = 0.55), although reptiles were represented by more individuals. The sun skink was the most frequently recorded species. These findings provide a preliminary dry-season inventory; however, inference about overall diversity and habitat condition is limited by unequal survey effort, predominantly diurnal sampling, and the inclusion of opportunistic records. Repeated standardized surveys across seasons and day–night periods are required to obtain a more complete estimate of herpetofaunal diversity.
