Abstract
Kampung Unggul Balitnak (KUB) chickens are local Indonesian chickens with good adaptability and production potential. The use of locally available plant-based feed ingredients may provide an alternative approach to supporting poultry production. Papaya leaf meal and turmeric contain bioactive compounds that may be used as dietary ingredients, although excessive inclusion may affect poultry performance. This study evaluated the effects of papaya leaf meal and turmeric supplementation in pelleted diets on KUB chicken performance. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with four treatments: P0 (100% basal diet), P1 (93% basal diet + 2% turmeric + 5% papaya leaf meal), P2 (86% basal diet + 4% turmeric + 10% papaya leaf meal), and P3 (79% basal diet + 6% turmeric + 15% papaya leaf meal). Each treatment had five replicates of five chickens, totaling 100 chickens. Dietary treatment did not significantly affect feed intake (P>0.05), but significantly affected body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and water consumption (P<0.05). The highest body weight gain was observed in P0, while P2 maintained relatively favorable performance among the supplemented treatments. Performance tended to decline at P3. Thus, combined papaya leaf meal and turmeric supplementation can be included up to the P2 level, whereas higher inclusion may reduce KUB chicken performance.
