Kabupaten Sumbawa Barat memiliki luas lahan sawah mencapai 9,705 ha. Peningkatan tersebut berkaitan dengan penambahan sawah baru di Kabupaten Sumbawa Barat. Menurut jenisnya sebagian besar lahan sawah berpengairan teknis (4.013 ha), setengah teknis seluas 2.081 ha, sisanya berpengairan sederhana dan tadah hujan lahan kering. Sektor pertanian masih memegang peranan penting dalam menopang perekonomian Kabupaten Sumbawa Barat, karena merupakan penyerap tenaga kerja terbesar. Oleh karena itu sangat diperlukan metode dalam mengolah dan menentukan jenis komoditas hortikultura unggulan yang akan dikembangkan di daerah Kabupaten Sumbawa Barat. Dalam penentuan komoditas hortikultura unggulan dapat menggunakan Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). TeknikÃÂ pengumpulanÃÂ dataÃÂ padaÃÂ penelitianÃÂ menggunakanÃÂ teknikÃÂ survey dan wawancara langsung dengan narasumber yang ada di Kabupaten Sumbawa Barat. Dari hasil Analisis data diketahui bahwa terdapat 10 urutan komoditi unggulan lintas subjenis, dan terlihat bahwa yang memiliki nilai rangking tertinggi adalah jenis buah-buahan, yaitu buah semangka dengan skor terbobot (0.0793).

ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ West Sumbawa Regency has a land area reaches 9,705 ha. The increase is related to the addition of new rice fields in West Sumbawa regency. According to its kind, most of the rice fields are technical (4,013 ha), half technical area of 2,081 ha, the rest are simple and rain-fed with dry land. The agricultural sector still plays an important role in sustaining the economy of West Sumbawa Regency, because it is the largest employer absorber. Therefore it is very necessary method in processing and determine the type of superior horticultural commodities that will be developed in the district of West Sumbawa. In the determination of superior horticultural commodities can use Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Data collection techniques in research using survey techniques and direct interviews with resource persons in West Sumbawa Regency. From the result of data analysis, it is known that there are 10 sequence of superior commodity cross subtype, and it can be seen that the highest rank is the type of fruit, namely watermelon fruit with weighted score (0.0793).
