Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

BIOSTE receives research, review, report manuscripts on biological science and biological education, and written in English or Bahasa Indonesia. The paper focus on learning media in biology, biology laboratory management, biological curriculum. The journal is published twice a year, in April and October.

Article should be written in a paper size A4, single space after paragraph, single column, font type Open Sans, font size 11 pt, and line spacing 1.15. The article should contain no more than 6000 words.

The manuscripts should contain the following section in order:

a. Title

Tittle should be simple, brief, and informative. Consist of 12 – 15 words only, abbreviations and formulas should be avoided.

b. The author's identify

Manuscript must be consist of at least 2 authors. The author’s should be written including their name completely without academic degrees and tittle, affiliation address, postal code and email of the corresponding author.

c. Abstract

Abstract should be written clearly and factually in English or Bahasa Indonesia. The abstract includes a clear elaboration of the research purpose, methods, results, and conclusion. The abstract must not contain citations, formulas, tables, and pictures. The number of words in the abstract is between 150 to 250 words, and written in one paragraph, font Open Sans 9 pt, 1sp.

d. Keywords

Keywords reflect the content of the article to make it easier for readers to find the article. Keywords are not abbreviated and should use the terms that are the main issue of the entire manuscript. Keywords may consist of 3-5 words, written alphabetically in Open Sans 9 pt

e. Introduction

Outline the purpose of the article or research, presented clearly and concisely, while refraining from detailed references and the presentation of research results. The introduction should contain the general information about the topic, the problem definition, gap analysis in the literature, problem solution, aims and objectives, research questions, and significance and advantages of the research.

f. Material and Methods

Make sure methods used should be accompanied by references, relevant modification should be explained. The quantitative research method should include the experimental setup, data collection, data analysis, any statistical testing, assumptions, and the scope of the experiment. In contrast, the qualitative research must address the research setting, including the location, number and criteria of respondents, sampling technique, data collection procedures, validation procedures, coding, interpretation, and data analysis techniques. Formulas must adhere to international standards of notation and symbols, accompanied by appropriate references when citing external sources.

g. Results and Discussion 

Result and discussion should be presented in the same part, clearly and briefly. Discussion part should contain the benefit of research result, not repeat result part. Result and discussion part can be written in the same part to avoid extensive quotation. Findings from research and should be synchronized with the research questions, answers the cause-effect relationship and should be supported by a theoretical framework, and compare the results of your research with another research. Tables and figures must be significant features within this section.

h. Conclusions

Include a summary of findings and future research recommendation. Conclusions emphasize the novelty of the discovery or development carried out, written briefly, concisely, and clearly. Future research exploration may be suggested for further research to be developed by other researchers and can be conveyed briefly and clearly in a new paragraph of the conclusion.

i. Acknowledgments

Contain appreciation given by the author to those who have been contributed significantly to the research, both in the form of financial support, licensing, consultants, and assisting in data collection and analysis.

j. References

Written in accordance with the citations in the article, a minimum of 20 references with more than 80% of primary sources from journals or proceedings published within the last 10 years. Font Open Sans, size 9pt, with line spacing 1sp, spacing after 6pt. The provisions for writing references by alphabetical order are adjusted to the format specified. Writing should use a reference management application such as Mendeley. The writing format used refers to the APA 7th Edition (American Psychological Association) format.
