Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of experiential learning in improving students’ ability to write narrative texts in class XI Social 11 SMAN 2 Mataram. The research was conducted through two learning cycles based on Kolb’s (1984) four stages of experiential learning: Concrete Experience, Reflective Observation, Abstract Conceptualization, and Active Experimentation.
In the first cycle, students wrote a narrative text about an inspiring idol figure. The results were less satisfactory with an average score of 66.3. In the second cycle, students shared personal experiences with peers and rewrote them into narrative texts. The average score increased to 82.1. Thus, experiential learning was proven effective in improving narrative writing skills
