Abstract

This study investigates the influence of passion, Learning Management System (LMS) utilization, and mentor teacher guidance on the competence of pre-service teachers enrolled in the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), University of Mataram. Employing a quantitative approach with an ex post facto method and a descriptive-correlational design, this research involved 150 PPG students selected through proportional random sampling from various subject specializations. Data were collected using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS version 27. The results indicate that passion, LMS utilization, and mentor teacher guidance simultaneously have a statistically significant effect on student competence (p = 0.046), although the model’s explanatory power is relatively low, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.034. Despite the modest statistical contribution, descriptive analysis shows that students demonstrate high levels of professional passion, actively engage with LMS features, and benefit from substantial mentor guidance. The regression analysis revealed positive coefficients for all independent variables, suggesting that increases in passion, LMS usage, and mentor involvement correspond with enhanced competence. These findings highlight the multifaceted nature of teacher competence development and underscore the importance of fostering intrinsic motivation, leveraging digital learning platforms, and ensuring quality mentoring in teacher education programs. The study recommends that future iterations of PPG programs focus on optimizing LMS integration, strengthening the training and involvement of mentor teachers, and embedding passion-driven pedagogical values into the curriculum. Further research is encouraged to examine additional variables such as institutional support, self-efficacy, or reflective practice to develop a more comprehensive framework for preparing competent, adaptive, and professionally committed teachers.
