Authorship Criteria Policy

1. General Policy

Jurnal Pijar MIPA is committed to promoting transparency, accountability, academic integrity, and fairness in the attribution of authorship in scientific publications. The journal recognizes that authorship provides academic recognition for significant intellectual contributions and establishes responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of published research.

This policy establishes clear criteria for determining authorship, identifying individual contributions, managing authorship changes, and resolving authorship disputes.

Jurnal Pijar MIPA adopts authorship principles based on the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and the Contributor Role Taxonomy (CRediT).

All authors submitting manuscripts to Jurnal Pijar MIPA must comply with these requirements.

2. Criteria for Authorship

Jurnal Pijar MIPA adopts the four authorship criteria recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

To qualify as an author, an individual must meet all four criteria:

  1. Substantial Intellectual Contribution: Making substantial contributions to the conception or design of the research, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of research data.

  2. Manuscript Preparation: Drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing and revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final Approval: Reviewing and approving the final version of the manuscript before publication.

  4. Accountability: Agreeing to take responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the research and ensuring that questions regarding any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All individuals who meet these criteria should be recognized as authors, and all listed authors must fulfill the requirements.

Individuals who contribute to the research but do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section rather than listed as authors.

3. Author Contributions

Jurnal Pijar MIPA encourages transparent reporting of individual author contributions using the Contributor Role Taxonomy (CRediT).

The CRediT taxonomy consists of 14 recognized contribution categories:

  1. Conceptualization: Development of research ideas, objectives, and scientific concepts.

  2. Methodology: Design and development of research methods and procedures.

  3. Software: Development, implementation, or application of software and computational tools.

  4. Validation: Verification of research results, methods, and analytical procedures.

  5. Formal Analysis: Application of statistical, mathematical, computational, or other analytical techniques.

  6. Investigation: Conducting experiments, fieldwork, observations, or data collection.

  7. Resources: Provision of research materials, instruments, facilities, or other resources.

  8. Data Curation: Organization, management, documentation, and preservation of research data.

  9. Writing – Original Draft: Preparation of the initial manuscript.

  10. Writing – Review & Editing: Critical review, revision, and improvement of manuscript content.

  11. Visualization: Preparation and presentation of research figures, graphs, and other visual materials.

  12. Supervision: Scientific oversight, guidance, and leadership of research activities.

  13. Project Administration: Coordination and management of research projects.

  14. Funding Acquisition: Securing financial support for the research.

Authors may have multiple contribution roles, and individual roles may be shared by several authors.

CRediT roles describe the contributions of individuals but do not independently determine eligibility for authorship. All listed authors must satisfy the journal's authorship criteria.

4. Author Order and Corresponding Author

The order of authors must be determined collectively by the authors before manuscript submission, based on their respective contributions and mutual agreement.

Jurnal Pijar MIPA does not determine author order on behalf of the research team.

The corresponding author is responsible for managing communication between the authors and the editorial office throughout the submission, peer-review, publication, and post-publication processes.

The corresponding author must:

  • Ensure that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria.

  • Obtain approval from all authors before manuscript submission.

  • Ensure that author names, affiliations, and contact information are accurate.

  • Coordinate manuscript revisions and responses to reviewers.

  • Communicate editorial decisions and publication updates to all co-authors.

  • Ensure that required ethical declarations and supporting documentation are submitted.

  • Respond to post-publication inquiries concerning the published article.

All authors share responsibility for the integrity and reliability of the published research.

5. Acknowledgment of Non-Author Contributors

Individuals who contribute to research activities but do not fulfill all authorship criteria should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section.

Such contributions may include:

  • Technical or laboratory assistance.

  • Administrative or logistical support.

  • Language editing and proofreading.

  • General academic supervision without sufficient additional intellectual contribution.

  • Provision of funding or research facilities.

  • Assistance with data collection or research materials.

Financial support, institutional leadership, or general supervision alone does not automatically justify authorship.

The corresponding author should obtain permission from individuals named in the Acknowledgments section.

6. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

Jurnal Pijar MIPA prohibits inappropriate authorship practices that undermine transparency, fairness, and academic integrity.

These practices include:

a. Gift or Honorary Authorship

Listing individuals as authors because of their academic position, institutional authority, personal relationships, or professional status without meeting the required authorship criteria.

b. Ghost Authorship

Excluding individuals who qualify for authorship or concealing substantial contributions made by eligible contributors.

c. Guest Authorship

Including individuals primarily to increase the perceived credibility, reputation, or publication prospects of a manuscript without sufficient intellectual contribution.

d. Coercive Authorship

Adding individuals as authors because of pressure, authority, institutional influence, or other inappropriate circumstances.

e. Authorship Manipulation

Adding, removing, or rearranging authors without appropriate justification and agreement among the authors.

All authorship decisions must reflect genuine intellectual contributions and collective accountability for the research.

7. Changes in Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission must be formally submitted to the editorial office.

Such requests must include:

  1. A clear explanation of the proposed authorship change.

  2. A justification based on the authorship criteria.

  3. Written agreement from all existing authors.

  4. Written consent from any author being added or removed.

  5. An updated author contribution statement when applicable.

Authorship changes will be evaluated by the editorial board before approval.

Changes in authorship after manuscript acceptance or publication will be considered only when supported by valid reasons and appropriate documentation.

The journal may suspend manuscript processing while an unresolved authorship disagreement is being addressed.

8. Authorship Disputes

Jurnal Pijar MIPA recognizes that disagreements regarding authorship eligibility, author order, or individual contributions may arise during the research and publication process.

Authors are encouraged to resolve such disputes through transparent communication and mutual agreement.

When a dispute cannot be resolved, the editorial board may request supporting documentation or refer the matter to the relevant research institution for investigation.

The journal does not assume responsibility for arbitrating competing authorship claims that require institutional investigation.

Editorial decisions concerning disputed manuscripts will be made in accordance with publication ethics principles and relevant COPE recommendations.

9. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and other generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Pijar MIPA.

AI technologies cannot fulfill the requirements of intellectual accountability, manuscript approval, or responsibility for research integrity.

Authors must disclose substantive use of generative AI technologies in accordance with the journal's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy.

Human authors remain fully responsible for verifying AI-assisted content and ensuring the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their manuscripts.

10. Author Contribution Statement

Jurnal Pijar MIPA encourages authors to provide an Author Contributions statement that clearly identifies the contributions of each author.

The statement should be included in the manuscript before the References section.

Example:

Author Contributions

Author A: Conceptualization, Methodology, Investigation, Writing – Original Draft. Author B: Formal Analysis, Data Curation, Visualization. Author C: Validation, Supervision, Writing – Review & Editing. All authors have read and approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for their contributions to the work.

The contribution statement must accurately reflect the actual responsibilities and intellectual contributions of the authors.

11. Responsibilities and Accountability

All authors are collectively responsible for ensuring that the manuscript represents authentic, original, and ethically conducted research.

Authors must ensure that:

  1. The research findings are accurately and transparently reported.

  2. All authors have approved the manuscript before submission.

  3. Appropriate ethical approvals and research permissions have been obtained when required.

  4. All relevant conflicts of interest and funding sources are disclosed.

  5. Research data and supporting materials can be provided when reasonably requested.

  6. Any significant errors or ethical concerns identified after publication are promptly reported to the editorial office.

Authors must cooperate with editorial investigations concerning authorship, research integrity, or publication ethics.

12. Policy Review and Updates

Jurnal Pijar MIPA will periodically review and update its Authorship Criteria Policy to ensure consistency with internationally recognized standards of research integrity and scholarly publishing.

The journal remains committed to ensuring that authorship reflects genuine intellectual contributions, appropriate recognition, and collective responsibility for published scientific research.
