Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
1. General Policy
Jurnal Pijar MIPA is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, scientific originality, transparency, and ethical publishing practices. The journal recognizes the increasing application of artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in scientific research and academic writing. However, the use of generative AI must not compromise the authenticity, reliability, originality, or intellectual contribution of manuscripts submitted for publication.
This policy establishes guidelines for the responsible use of AI-generated content by authors, editors, and reviewers. It aims to ensure that AI technologies support scientific communication without replacing human intellectual contributions, independent scientific judgment, or accountability for research findings.
All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Pijar MIPA must comply with this policy throughout the submission, peer-review, and publication processes.
2. Use of AI-Generated Content in Manuscripts
Authors may use generative AI tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and other AI-assisted technologies, to support manuscript preparation, particularly for language editing, grammar correction, readability improvement, and clarity enhancement in academic writing.
However, AI-generated content must not replace the authors' original scientific reasoning, critical analysis, interpretation of research findings, or intellectual contributions. The introduction, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusions must accurately reflect the authors' own research activities, scientific understanding, and scholarly contributions.
All AI-assisted content must be critically reviewed, verified, and revised by the authors before submission. Authors remain fully responsible for the scientific accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of their manuscripts, including content developed with AI assistance.
The submission of manuscripts substantially generated by AI without meaningful human intellectual contribution is not permitted.
3. AI-Generated Content Detection and Editorial Threshold
As part of its commitment to academic integrity and scientific originality, Jurnal Pijar MIPA may conduct preliminary screening of submitted manuscripts using AI-generated content detection tools.
The journal establishes an AI-generated content detection score of 20% as an internal threshold for additional editorial assessment.
Manuscripts with an AI-generated content detection score exceeding 20% may be subject to further evaluation by the editorial team. Authors may be requested to provide clarification regarding AI use, submit relevant documentation, or revise manuscript sections that raise concerns about originality, scientific accuracy, or intellectual contribution.
Manuscripts may be rejected when editorial assessment establishes that AI-generated content has been used inappropriately, including the substitution of original scientific contributions, fabrication of research findings, or serious violations of publication ethics.
AI-generated content detection scores are screening indicators rather than definitive evidence of AI use or research misconduct. Therefore, manuscripts will not be automatically rejected solely because an AI detection score exceeds 20%.
All editorial decisions must be based on comprehensive evaluation, verifiable evidence, author clarification where appropriate, and independent human judgment.
4. AI-Generated Research Data and Scientific Findings
Jurnal Pijar MIPA strictly prohibits the use of generative AI technologies to fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or misrepresent research data, experimental observations, statistical results, or scientific findings.
Authors must not use AI-generated content to:
Fabricate experimental or observational data.
Generate fictitious research participants, responses, or measurements.
Produce artificial statistical results and present them as authentic findings.
Create unsupported scientific interpretations or conclusions.
Misrepresent AI-generated or synthetic data as genuine empirical evidence.
Conceal research misconduct or manipulate scientific findings.
The legitimate application of AI in scientific modeling, simulations, computational analysis, or synthetic data generation is permitted when scientifically justified, transparently disclosed, and appropriately documented.
When AI-based methods are incorporated into the research process, authors must clearly describe the relevant tools, procedures, validation methods, and limitations in the Methods section to ensure scientific transparency and reproducibility.
5. AI-Generated Images, Figures, and Illustrations
AI-generated or AI-modified scientific images must not misrepresent authentic experimental observations, analytical results, or research evidence.
The journal prohibits the use of generative AI to fabricate or misleadingly modify microscopy images, spectroscopic results, experimental photographs, graphs, or other scientific visualizations.
AI-assisted conceptual illustrations, research workflow diagrams, and graphical abstracts may be considered when they accurately represent the scientific concepts, are appropriately disclosed, and comply with applicable copyright and intellectual property requirements.
Authors must clearly identify any permitted AI-generated visual materials in the corresponding figure captions, including the AI tool used and the purpose of its application.
The editorial board reserves the right to request original images, raw data, or supporting documentation to verify the authenticity and reliability of submitted visual materials.
6. AI-Generated References and Citations
Authors are strictly prohibited from including fabricated, inaccurate, misleading, or unverifiable references generated by AI systems.
All references cited in submitted manuscripts must correspond to authentic and relevant scholarly publications.
Authors must independently verify the accuracy of bibliographic information, including author names, article titles, journal names, publication years, volume and issue numbers, page ranges, and digital object identifiers (DOIs).
The use of AI-generated references that cannot be verified may constitute a violation of publication ethics and may result in manuscript revision or rejection.
7. AI Authorship and Intellectual Responsibility
Generative AI tools and AI-assisted technologies cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Pijar MIPA.
Authorship requires substantial intellectual contributions, responsibility for research integrity, approval of the final manuscript, and accountability for the published work. These responsibilities can only be fulfilled by human authors.
All listed authors must take full responsibility for the content of their manuscripts, including any text, figures, analyses, or other materials developed with AI assistance.
The use of AI technologies does not reduce or transfer the authors' responsibility for scientific accuracy, originality, intellectual property compliance, or ethical publishing practices.
8. Disclosure of Generative AI Use
Authors must transparently disclose any substantive use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation.
The disclosure must identify the AI tool used, explain the purpose and extent of its application, and confirm that the authors have critically reviewed and verified the AI-assisted content.
Authors must include a separate section entitled "Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies" immediately before the References section when substantive AI assistance has been used.
9. Use of AI by Peer Reviewers
Peer reviewers must maintain strict confidentiality regarding manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Pijar MIPA.
Reviewers are prohibited from uploading unpublished manuscripts, confidential research data, or identifiable manuscript content to external generative AI platforms.
AI-assisted tools may be used for limited support activities, such as language correction or independent exploration of background literature, provided that manuscript confidentiality is not compromised.
The scientific assessment of manuscripts, including evaluation of research originality, methodological quality, data interpretation, and scholarly contribution, must remain the independent responsibility of human reviewers.
Reviewers must not rely exclusively on AI-generated evaluations or recommendations when assessing manuscripts.
Any substantive use of AI in preparing peer-review reports must be transparently disclosed to the editorial team.
10. Use of AI by Editors
Editors of Jurnal Pijar MIPA are responsible for ensuring that editorial decisions are based on scientific merit, originality, methodological rigor, research integrity, and compliance with publication ethics.
Editors must maintain the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts and must not upload confidential manuscript content to external generative AI platforms.
AI-assisted technologies may support administrative or editorial activities that do not compromise manuscript confidentiality, intellectual property rights, or the integrity of the peer-review process.
Decisions regarding manuscript acceptance, revision, or rejection must be made by authorized human editors and must not be delegated to AI systems.
Editors must exercise independent judgment when evaluating AI-generated content detection reports and consider the possibility of inaccurate classifications or false positives.
11. Violations and Editorial Actions
Jurnal Pijar MIPA reserves the right to investigate suspected violations of this AI Policy during manuscript submission, peer review, or after publication.
Potential violations include:
Undisclosed or misleading use of substantive AI-generated content.
Fabrication or falsification of research data using AI.
Inclusion of fictitious or unverifiable AI-generated references.
Misrepresentation of AI-generated images as authentic research evidence.
Submission of substantially AI-generated manuscripts without meaningful human intellectual contributions.
Unauthorized disclosure of confidential manuscript information through AI platforms.
When concerns arise, the editorial team may request clarification, original research materials, AI-use documentation, or manuscript revisions.
Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, editorial actions may include requests for revision, manuscript rejection, publication of corrections, retraction, or notification of the relevant institutions.
All investigations and editorial decisions will follow established publication ethics principles, including fairness, transparency, proportionality, and appropriate opportunities for authors to respond.
12. Policy Review and Updates
Jurnal Pijar MIPA will periodically review and update this policy in response to developments in generative AI technologies, international publishing standards, and research integrity practices.
The journal remains committed to supporting the responsible use of AI technologies while preserving scientific credibility, originality, editorial independence, and public trust in scholarly publishing.
