Correction and Retraction Policy

1. General Policy

Jurnal Pijar MIPA is committed to maintaining the integrity, accuracy, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes its responsibility to address errors, inaccuracies, and ethical concerns identified in published articles through appropriate corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern.

All post-publication actions are conducted in accordance with the principles and guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Editorial decisions are based on scientific evidence, publication ethics, transparency, fairness, and independent editorial judgment.

The primary purpose of corrections and retractions is to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the scientific literature rather than to punish authors.

2. Article Corrections

Jurnal Pijar MIPA may issue a correction when errors are identified in a published article that affect its accuracy, clarity, or interpretation but do not invalidate the overall scientific findings and conclusions.

Corrections may be considered for:

  • Errors in numerical data, tables, figures, or statistical calculations.

  • Incorrect author names, affiliations, or acknowledgments.

  • Errors in methodological descriptions or research procedures.

  • Inaccurate references or bibliographic information.

  • Other substantive errors that require clarification without compromising the validity of the research.

Minor typographical or formatting errors that do not affect the scientific content or interpretation may be corrected without a separate formal notice, provided that the journal maintains appropriate publication records.

Substantive corrections will be published as a separate, clearly identified correction notice linked to the original article. The notice will explain the nature of the error and the correction made, including the date of publication.

3. Article Retraction

Jurnal Pijar MIPA may retract a published article when reliable evidence demonstrates that its findings or conclusions are seriously flawed, unreliable, or affected by substantial violations of publication ethics.

Retraction may be considered under the following circumstances:

  1. Data Fabrication or Falsification: Evidence of fabricated, manipulated, or falsified research data, experimental results, or statistical analyses.

  2. Plagiarism: Substantial reproduction of previously published material without appropriate attribution or permission.

  3. Duplicate or Redundant Publication: Publication of substantially the same research findings in another journal without appropriate disclosure, justification, or cross-referencing.

  4. Unreliable Research Findings: Serious methodological errors, miscalculations, or analytical inaccuracies that invalidate the main findings or conclusions.

  5. Ethical Violations: Research conducted or reported in violation of applicable research ethics requirements.

  6. Manipulation of the Publication Process: Evidence of fraudulent authorship, compromised peer review, or other serious publication misconduct.

  7. Misuse of Artificial Intelligence: Fabrication of research data, references, scientific images, or findings using generative AI technologies that substantially compromises the reliability of the published work.

Retraction decisions will be based on the reliability and integrity of the published article, regardless of whether the underlying problem resulted from deliberate misconduct or an honest error.

4. Expression of Concern

Jurnal Pijar MIPA may publish an Expression of Concern when substantial questions arise regarding the reliability or ethical integrity of a published article, but the available evidence is insufficient to justify an immediate correction or retraction.

An Expression of Concern may be issued when:

  • Serious allegations of research misconduct remain under investigation.

  • Available evidence regarding the reliability of published findings is inconclusive.

  • Investigations are significantly delayed or cannot be completed within a reasonable period.

  • There are unresolved concerns regarding research ethics or publication integrity.

An Expression of Concern will be clearly identified and linked to the original article. Once an investigation is completed, the editorial board will determine whether the notice should be followed by a correction, retraction, or other appropriate action.

5. Investigation and Editorial Procedures

All allegations concerning errors, scientific misconduct, or publication ethics violations will be evaluated by the editorial board of Jurnal Pijar MIPA.

The editorial process generally includes:

  1. Initial Assessment: The editorial board evaluates the reported concerns and determines whether further investigation is necessary.

  2. Author Notification: The corresponding author and, where appropriate, other authors are informed of the concerns and provided an opportunity to respond.

  3. Evidence Evaluation: The editorial board examines relevant evidence, including original research data, supporting documentation, and expert assessments.

  4. Independent Review: Additional expert opinions or institutional investigations may be requested when necessary.

  5. Editorial Decision: The Editor-in-Chief determines the appropriate action based on the available evidence and applicable publication ethics guidelines.

  6. Publication of Notice: When warranted, a correction, retraction, or Expression of Concern is published and linked to the original article.

Authors are expected to cooperate with investigations and provide accurate information and supporting documentation when requested.

The Editor-in-Chief retains final editorial authority, subject to appropriate arrangements when a conflict of interest exists.

6. Retraction Notice and Publication Record

When an article is retracted, Jurnal Pijar MIPA will publish a formal retraction notice that:

  • Clearly identifies the retracted article, including its title, authors, publication details, and DOI.

  • Explains the reason for retraction in a factual and transparent manner.

  • Identifies the party issuing the retraction.

  • Indicates the date of retraction.

  • Provides a direct link to the original article.

  • Is freely accessible to readers.

The original article will generally remain available in the journal archive to preserve the scholarly record. However, it will be prominently marked as "RETRACTED" on the article webpage and in the published PDF, where technically feasible.

Retraction notices will be linked to the original publication, and relevant metadata will be updated through Crossref or other indexing services, as applicable.

Complete removal of an article will be considered only in exceptional circumstances, such as legal requirements, serious privacy violations, or substantial risks of harm.

7. Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for promptly notifying the editorial office if they discover significant errors, inaccuracies, or ethical problems in their published articles.

Authors must cooperate with the editorial board during investigations and provide original data, methodological documentation, or other relevant information when requested.

Authors may request a correction or retraction when justified by reliable evidence. However, the final decision regarding post-publication editorial action rests with the journal's authorized editorial leadership.

8. Editorial Transparency and Independence

All correction and retraction procedures will be conducted fairly, consistently, and transparently.

Jurnal Pijar MIPA ensures that editorial decisions are not improperly influenced by commercial interests, institutional relationships, author affiliations, or external pressures.

Corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern will be published promptly once sufficient evidence is available to support the relevant editorial action.

The journal is committed to preserving an accurate and trustworthy scholarly record through responsible post-publication editorial practices.

9. Policy Review and Updates

Jurnal Pijar MIPA will periodically review and update its Correction and Retraction Policy to remain aligned with international developments in scholarly publishing ethics and research integrity.

The journal follows the principles outlined in the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and relevant Crossref recommendations concerning post-publication updates.
