Diversity of Dragonflies (Odonata) Anisoptera and Damselflies in the Kenjeran Fish Ponds, North Surabaya

Abstract
Dragonflies (Odonata) are important bioindicators of aquatic ecosystem quality because their diversity and abundance are closely associated with environmental conditions and habitat stability. This study aims to determine the diversity of dragonflies of the order Odonata, suborder Zygoptera, in the Tambak Kenjeran area of North Surabaya. The research methods used were qualitative and quantitative, employing the time-search technique at two observation stations for one hour each, with three repetitions at the same time but on different days. Sampling was conducted with an insect net, and specimens were identified by morphological characteristics. The results showed that 86 dragonfly individuals were found, comprising two species: Ischnura senegalensis (Coenagrionidae) and Orthetrum sabina (Libellulidae). At Station 1, 46 individuals were found; at Station 2, 40. The most dominant species was Ischnura senegalensis with a total of 69 individuals, while Orthetrum sabina was found in 17 individuals. The diversity index values at Station 1 and Station 2 were 0.387212 and 0.588169, respectively, both classified as low. Low diversity index values indicate ecological stress and unstable ecosystem conditions in the pond area. This study is expected to provide information on dragonfly diversity and support efforts to conserve aquatic ecosystems in the Kenjeran Pond area. This confirms that the aquatic ecosystem in Kenjeran Pond is currently under stress and therefore requires serious attention in its management.
